Mass-produced mobile suit list:

(Author’s note: While the mobile suits in different storylines are generally fairly uniform in height, I have noticed that the weight varies greatly from storyline to storyline.  I have not attempted to explain why the original Gundam seems to weigh ten times as much as the Tallgeese, but am simply recording the information as I have found it.  Maybe someone else can help explain this…?)

These are the mass-produced mobile suits that may be most easily acquired by a civilian.  However, there are bounds of reason as to what type of mobile suit you can get your hands on.  A space colonist will probably not find himself in possession of a Leo or a Taurus, and likewise very few earthlings will be able to get their hands on a Zaku or Dom.  Some mobile suits are also exclusive to their military forces, Serpents are new enough that only the Earth military is likely to have any, and the inner workings of Gelgoogs are a well-kept secret (though a few commander types may be floating around).  GMs and Guncannons are only used by the Orion’s Vanguard.  Think carefully about which outfit you want to join before selecting a mobile suit.

The cost of the suit includes the suit itself and any fixed weapons and design features, any “optional” armaments must be purchased separately.  Also, some units are standard equipped with certain design features such as flight engines or variable geometry.  In such cases the stat bonuses have already been incorporated into the suit’s stats.  Also, all weights given are the “empty” weight, or the mass of the suit without fuel or weaponry.  This is mainly because I have been unable to find the max gross weight of some units, and have chosen to simply leave it out.

In years gone by, the Leo was the mobile suit of choice for soldiers and mercenaries on earth.  These days the suits are mainly used for construction and guard duty in areas that see little combat, though they are sometimes still pressed into military service.  When employed in large numbers, they can be a handful for even a powerful mobile suit.

Space-type: When the Earth Government first began military conflicts with the space colonies it needed a cheap and economical mobile suit to use for space combat.  Clapping a vernier-control system onto a Leo suit produced the space-type Leo.  It carries all the same armaments as the standard-type Leo, and has similar statistics, it’s just capable of operating in zero-g conditions.

Cost: 8 cp

Cannon-type: Some Leos have been outfitted with a pair of shoulder-mounted energy cannons for greater firepower, also allowing the Leos to act as a mid-range fire support unit.  These cannons make the unit unable to mount the beam sabers and shield or a flight pack, however.  Generally used by unit commanders or officers.

Cost: 9 cp

Though the Leo unit was initially all the Earth government needed, they also foresaw the need for air supremacy as well, as well as the advantages of having a mobile suit that could stand up to a Leo in combat should another agency employ their own suit against them.  The answer to both these problems was the Aries.  With the power of autonomous atmospheric flight, the Aries was not only a superb aerial unit, but due to its high maneuverability, also able to match a ground-bound version in a pinch.

Due to the nature of its flight engines, the Aries is not capable of space combat.

Model number: OZ-07MS

Another early design put out alongside the Aries and Leo, the Tragos was designed mainly as a heavy fire support unit.  To fulfill this role, it was designed to be able to mount a pair of powerful long-range cannons on its shoulders.  The suit can also be equipped with a hover-engine laden “skirt” for greater maneuverability and speed on open terrain, and is capable of jettisoning this equipment when it encounters less even ground.  Interestingly, the Tragos is one of only two mobile suit units developed by the OZ organization to not be named after a sign of the Zodiac, though the name Tragos (Greek for “Goat”) is certainly fitting for a mobile suit that mounts a pair of horn-like cannons.

Model number: OZ-08MMS

Code name: Cancer

Unit type: aquatic transformable mobile suit

Manufacturer: United Earth federation

Operator: Earth Federation Military

Accommodation: pilot only, in standard cockpit in torso

The first aquatic mobile suit developed by OZ, the Cancer is a submarine-like mobile suit capable of transforming into an “upright” mode for underwater combat.  It fits its name, sporting a pair of claw-like “hands” on a stocky body.  These claws are little use for manipulation, but can be used to grab an opposing mobile suit for easier delivery of its torpedo payload.  Though rather powerful underwater, it is incapable of land combat.

Model number: OZ-09MMS

Code name: Pisces

Unit type: amphibious transformable mobile suit

Manufacturer: United Earth Federation

Operator: Earth Federation Military, several civilian organizations

Accommodation: pilot only, in standard cockpit in torso

Developed by the OZ organization for space combat, the Taurus is one of the more powerful mobile suits in use by the Earth Federation.  A fast and powerful unit, it can transform into a fighter-like configuration for greater maneuverability as well.  Employed at one point as a test-bed unit for the mobile doll system, modern Tauruses are used exclusively as piloted units, though the mobile doll programs used to turn these graceful machines into pitiless engines of destruction are still in storage somewhere…

The Taurus is also capable of combat in an atmosphere with no discernable decrease in combat ability.

Model number: OZ-17MS

Code name: Serpent

Unit type: ground-combat mobile suit

The most recently developed mobile suit employed by the Earth Federation, the Serpent is a fast, powerful land-bound unit constructed of cheap Neo titanium and armed with some very powerful weaponry.  A symbol of power, these suckers have made the Earth Military an unstoppable force on its home planet, and may provide the Federation with a powerful mobile unit for use inside space colonies.

The Serpent is equipped with a set of powerful vernier thrusters on its back for maneuverability, as well as a pair of hover jets on its lower legs.  Though it would probably be capable of combat in space, it hasn’t been designed for it and the results could be less than satisfactory.  Further testing will be required before it can be successfully adapted for space combat.

Developed very recently after the original Zaku, the Zaku II was similar in appearance but sported several improvements in performance, as well as a more extensive pool of weaponry.  Though still considered a combat-worthy mobile unit, the Zaku II has taken a backseat to the more powerful Gelgoog and Rick Dom units.

J-type: The Zaku II unit featured here, the F-type, is capable of operating in an atmosphere without a noticeable decrease in performance.  However, another unit, the J-type, was also developed exclusively for land combat, and is almost identical to the F-type, aside from skipping on some maneuvering thrusters, making it unsuitable for combat in space.

Cost: 7 cp

A general purpose land-combat mobile suit developed by the league of Arabic nations during the early years of the OZ conflict, the Maganac is a sturdy and powerful mobile suit, suited for both long and close-range combat.  The Maganac has also been known to be outfitted with additional maneuvering thrusters for use in a zero-g environment.  Since Rasid Winner is planning on sending his Maganac units into space to deal with the Orion’s Vanguard, it might be safe to assume that all of his suits possess this upgrade.

The original Maganac Corps frequently customized their suits with additional weaponry and more extensive armor.  These are the most well-known modifications:

Abdul Custom: This unit featured large shoulder armor laden with additional thrusters (+1 to Maneuverability, though it is not capable of flight).  The pilot also mounted a large beam cannon on the left arm in place of a shield.

Cost: 17 cps

Ahmad Custom: This unit featured only heavier armor, most notably in the shoulders and “skirt” (+1 to Armor).

Cost: 13 cps.

Auda Custom: One of the more easily recognizable variations, this custom mounts a large gundanium claw on the left arm instead of a shield (uses stats for arm-mounted double heat blade).

Cost: 16 cps

Rasid Custom: A suit designed for the leader of the Maganac Corps, this suit features a squad leader antennae, stylized shoulder armor, and a pair of head-mounted vulcan guns for close-range combat.

A variant of the Maganac, the Olifant mounted a modified Maganac torso onto a pair of large hoverjet equipped legs.  Much faster than it’s cousin, the Olifant was equipped with a body-mounted beam rifle and gatling gun to allow it to make good use of its speed for offensive strikes.  Though useless in space, on the ground the Olifant is an excellent fire support unit.
